Get Out Of That Rut!

Posted by Guest Author On September - 30 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Ah, the old rut of all things mundane.  We’ve all been there; some of us even set up camp and stay awhile.  In the rut, things get comfortable.  In the rut, you barely have to think.  But in the rut, nothing feels exciting and there is little fun or challenge.  Days are long in the rut and nights are even longer.

The rut is not a place where you want to reside.  If you are there, or in danger of falling in; you need to take quick action to keep yourself living a life that is exciting and fulfilling.  Here are a few ways you can add spice to a life that has become mundane.

Goals are a great way to get motivated.  When you set a goal, you give yourself something to shoot for.  Your goal can be large or small.  If your rut is particularly deep, it may be best to set several smaller goals that are more attainable just to get into the habit of working towards something new.  Goals can pertain to your career, your fitness or some form of personal development.

There is nothing like physical activity to jump start your zest for life.  When you are in a rut, your energy gets sapped and you are dragged down further into your rut.  Physical activity to get you going doesn’t have to be intense and doesn’t even have to take place on a ball field or gym.  Self defense videos offer you two things; physical activity and the ability to become your own protector.

Through self defense videos (or a good self defense DVD) , you gain valuable skills and you also learn more about yourself.  Personal safety is not something that we think about enough.  When you take your personal safety in your own hands through self defense videos or by popping in a self defense DVD at night after work; you are challenged and the spark to take on more challenges has been set.

Living in a rut even for a week has a negative impact on your mind and effects how you think.  The world is full of negativity; which just pushes you further into a rut.  If you don’t feel like there is any reason to get out; or lack the belief in yourself that you can get out there and accomplish more; then you simply never will.  No one is alone in these thoughts; and help is available.

Sometimes what is needed is a little boost of positivity into your life.  Read books, watch shows, read magazines that remind you of how good life can be.  Especially if you have a spark of wanting to accomplish something specific.  Put positive information in front of your face that will show you others have accomplished whatever it is you want to do.  For instance, if you are in a food rut and you’d like to eat healthier, watch shows like The Biggest Loser for inspiration and tips.  If you would like to bring more money into your life; watch Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous and think positive thoughts (instead of “I could never have that”).

Changing your circumstances requires changing your outlook.  To get out of the rut takes courage, motivation and sometimes a little extra help.  But life is so much better on the outside!

Women In Mixed Martial Arts

Posted by Guest Author On September - 29 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Mixed martial arts is a confusing sport for many as they either do not understand the rules, or they have never tried to study the mechanics of this game. Mixed martial art has been around since 1800s, but, it was mainly Bruce Lee who made it popular by producing a fighting style that combined everything from karate to western boxing to fencing. MMA training poses whole new challenges to the body as it is different from the conventional run on the running machine workouts. MMA sport needs sheer physical call for, and the player needs to build up high levels of muscular and cardiovascular endurance, agility, flexibility and stamina.

For men, mixed martial arts is probably one of the most lucrative professional sport in the world, still, for ladies, the trend is still catching up. Chokeholds, general grappling, leg trips, joint locks, punches, knee strikes, throws and takedowns are legal techniques used by males and females players. ReMix/L-1 tournament in Japan is probably one of the most famous events where women show their capabilities in free-style fighting. Currently, women MMA is covered by International Sport Fight Federation, and this federation also establishes the weight categories and rules.

Though, people think that women in this sport are not as striking as men, there is even so a growing awareness of women in the game owing to popular female personalities and fighters such as Gina Carano and Megumi Fujji. At present, International Sport Battle Federation covers women’s MMA, and this federation establishes MMA weight categories and rules. Currently, only four ISCF MMA weight categories have women fighters as per ISCF rank: Laura D’Auguste under Bantamweight, Kelly Kobald under Featherweight, Jen Case under lightweight, and Erin Toughill under Welterweight. Women in these clubs are so well trained and strong that they not only fight with one another, but also compete with men.

Though women’s MMA is now gaining popularity, it still stays outside the mainstream, and results are not published in sports pages. In recent times, a variety of MMA called reality fighting started in North American Grappler Association, and Laura D’Auguste got the women’s title. DWW also promotes a fight style fighting in bikini, and in this MMA style fighting, hair pulling is allowed. There are several clubs that promote female MMA matches, and a few of the girls in these clubs are so strong that they compete not just with each other but also with other men.

As MMS is a sport mainly dominated by men, women are usually intimidated when looking at joining the study course. Though these street fights would relate to MMA, but these are still brawls without any referee and rules. It is surprising how quickly the shape of the body changes while going through MMA training. After getting established, MMA has in a very short space of time become about the most famous and officially recognized combative sports.

How To Learn Martial Arts From A DVD

Posted by Guest Author On September - 28 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

First things first, let’s get one thing straight: martial arts and self defense are not the same thing.  Not by a long shot.  Although they both certainly have their merits, it is important to understand the differences before deciding which route is best for you.   Although martial arts have some benefits when it comes to self defense, they are typically not the best route.  The main reason for this is that all the different types of martial arts are based on a certain type of attack.  However, your every day criminal in the street will not be following any of the rules of martial arts.  Each attack can be different.  They can come from the front, the side, the back or they could be brandishing a weapon such as a gun or a knife.  No matter how many fancy kicks you know, they won’t be able to save your life in this type of situation.

But if you learn self defense techniques from a martial arts DVD, you will then have the knowledge and ability to take down your attacker.  The difference between actually completely learning a martial art in a dojo and learning from a martial arts DVD is that you will not get the complete and total martial arts training.  However, you will get knowledge of the specific moves that you can use when self defense becomes a priority.  Learning and mastering a martial art can take a lifetime.  But simply learning a few key moves that can save your life can take only a matter of days.  The difference between martial arts and self defense is that self defense is much simpler.  It is a series of moves that will work in any violent situation.  And the best part is that they can be learned and implemented by absolutely anyone.  Your size doesn’t even play a role, as long as you implement the moves properly.

If you learn from a martial arts DVD, you won’t have to learn all the theory and everything behind the moves.  You will simply learn the solid moves that you will need in order to be the victor in any type of violent situation.  Of course, by learning these moves, you may wish to enroll in martial arts classes.  Apart from self defense, martial arts are also a great way to get in shape as well as tone your mind.  There is a lot of focus surrounding the mental state of being in martial arts, so it can be an extremely useful tool for anyone who is suffering from undue stress and fatigue.

But if you simply want to learn self defense, then you don’t need to spend all your time working out.  A few simple moves will give you the power over and opponent, no matter what your size or physical ability may be.  You will soon be able to walk the dark streets at night and no longer be concerned about what may be lurking in the bushes.

Know What The Military Knows In Self Defense

Posted by Guest Author On September - 27 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

You would be hard-pressed to find another group more highly trained than the military.  They are trained in every type of combat that you could possibly think of.   And for years, they were the only ones who had access to this disciplined style of training.  But those days are over, as military self defense tactics have now been made available to the public.  Self defense tactics vary greatly depending on who you are talking to, but it is generally assumed that the military have the best of the best.  One of the most common and effective tactics are moves that can be lumped into the category of hand to hand combat.  Although many of our fights on the battlefield are now done from far away with weapons such as guns and hand grenades, soldiers still need to be prepared to fight with their bare hands if need be.

The skills that are taught in military self defense are the exact same skills that could save your life if you were ever confronted by a violent criminal.  The entire premise of self defense is to protect yourself by overpowering or outsmarting your attacker.  And with these simple tactics, you will quickly be able to do both.  Anyone with a military background can tell you that your state of mind is just as important as your physical state.  If you aren’t mentally prepared for battle, then you won’t be much good to anyone else, no matter how strong you are.  And that is precisely why self defense tactics begin in the mind.

Let’s face it: criminals aren’t always the smartest people around.  They tend to prey on what they perceive to be an easy target.  So by simply ensuring that you don’t come off as an easy target, you drastically reduce your chances of ever being attacked in the first place.  And this doesn’t take weeks of training to master.  It is simply a state of heightened awareness of your surroundings and the people in them.  It is something that you can practice every time you leave the house so soon enough it will just be second nature.

Being aware has a number of different components.  Of course, you should be aware of all sights and sounds that are out of the ordinary.  But also, ensure that your mind is not elsewhere while out in public.  If you have your head buried in your cell phone texting away, a criminal will see a very easy target.  You won’t even notice them coming up behind you as they grab your purse, wallet or anything else.  But if you are in public and absolutely need to send a text, make sure that your back is against a wall.  It may sound like a paranoid way to live but in fact it becomes second nature pretty quickly.  And when you consider the alternative of getting beaten, mugged and robbed, it really isn’t too troublesome to get used to.
